Description

Low carb burger buns using 4 ingredients.

Ingredients

Units Scale
For the buns
For the egg wash and topping
  • 1 large egg + 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tbsp everything but the bagel seasoning (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400ºF
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, microwave mozzarella in 30-second intervals, stirring between each re-heat. You should only need to do this three times.
  3. While mozzarella is hot, add almond flour and baking powder. Stir until well incorporated. Then add eggs, one at a time, and stir until the eggs are fully incorporated and the dough looks sticky. Let the dough cool to room temperature before handling, about 10 minutes.
  4. Divide dough, and roll into six even balls. Place the balls to your baking sheet, and flatten slightly.
  5. In a small bowl, add water and egg, and beat until combined. Use your pastry brush to brush on the egg wash.
  6. Sprinkle a pinch of everything but the bagel seasoning on the top of each.
  7. Bake for 17-20 minutes, or until the tops and bottoms are golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool for 20 minutes before slicing. Cool time allows the bun to set, and not crumble completely.

Notes

Healthy Twist: These slider buns are made without white flour, which keeps the carbohydrate count on the low end. Since they’re also made with mozzarella cheese, they have more protein than regular bread. Plus, you can skip the cheese on your next sandwich with its mild, cheesy taste.
