Tales from an off-beat bride.

Today I’ve been engaged to Bryan for two full months, and as I’ve been trying to get a handle on what I wanted (Bryan says he’d just show up, with the only request being that WE have fun that day), I realized something – I don’t want the craziness I actually thought I wanted. 

Before I got engaged, I kept this “secret” pinboard of wedding day stuff I thought I loved. Big dresses, huge party, large production the list goes on. I scrapped it and started from scratch. I started with a new question: “What is it that Bryan and I REALLY want?”

Then it hit me – I realized that I am a totally off-beat bride. 

I want simplicity and weirdness, but coolness. I want tradition wrapped in an untraditional shell. I want intimacy but I want to share it all. I want our families to be excited, I want to do it all with a really super tight budget so that we can buy a house in the next couple of years (can I write a tirade post about the costs of things for weddings? Like, I could have funded my entire college education with the amount of money it costs to have a really MODEST wedding). I want to have an adventure. I want to create an unforgettable memory that we’ll look back on and say “damn, that was awesome.” I want to surprise everyone with my dress. I want everyone to be happy with whatever we decide to do. We want to be happy with whatever we decide to do. I want breakfast tacos, or messy BBQ instead of a seated dinner. We want to throw a party that our friends and family will enjoy, but that we would enjoy too. I want do DIY special touches that surprise everyone and feel fun.

At the end of the day, we’re going to have the best time. Off-beat, or not, our wedding is going to turn out exactly like we would want it to – Fun, special, and memorable.
