Hand-held foods are what make the summertime! Picking up a taco with my bare hands or holding my sticky ribs covered in BBQ sauce is one of my favorite summer pastimes.

One of my favorite hand-held foods is Bruschetta! I love it because it’s an easy sharable snack that comes together in just a few minutes with ingredients you might have lying around. 

I love this recipe because the simple ingredients make a delicious, summery snack that everyone just devours. 

Every time I make one of these, it legitimately disappears when I put the board down on the table. 

What is Bruschetta?

Bruschetta is an antipasto dish that originated in Italy. The word bruschetta comes from the Italian bruscare, which means to roast over coals, and brusata, which means to toast or burn. 

Bruschetta works with various toppings such as tomato sauce, garlic cloves, pepperoni, basil leaves, and olive oil. This recipe will teach you how to make bruschetta for a party using fresh bread!

Which bread for Bruschetta?

To make bruschetta, you will need some fresh bread. You can use any type of sturdy crusty loaves, such as a baguette or country-style bread.

If you want the bruschetta to taste extra delicious fluffy, and crunchy, try using ciabatta as I do in this recipe. 

Ciabatta does a great job of holding up the ingredients without getting soggy quickly. 

How to make toasted bread for bruschetta?

To toast the bread, place it on a baking sheet, and drizzle liberally with olive oil. Bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. 

What to serve with bruschetta?

While bruschetta certainly makes a great meal on its own, you can use it as a starter for your entire meal or serve it with various toppings.

As I mention in this bruschetta recipe, you can serve bruschetta with tomato sauce or pesto for a delicious vegetarian meal that is perfect for the summer! 

You can also experiment with other toppings such as fresh mozzarella and basil leaves or cured Italian meats like salami or pepperoni for a hearty bruschetta.

It can be the pre-game to a great chicken or pasta dish as well.

Ingredients in Bruschetta

  • Bruschetta has a few simple ingredients. For mine, I used: 
  • Champagne Tomatoes
  • Basil
  • Salt
  • Olive Oil
  • Ciabatta loaf
  • Red pepper flakes

How to make Bruschetta 

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Slice your loaf in half and place it on a baking sheet. Then drizzle the loaf with olive oil

Place the loaf into your oven and bake for about 10 minutes, or until toasted to your liking. 

While the bread is baking, slice your champagne tomatoes in half, and place them in a bowl. 

Pick your basil and slice them with a chiffonade cut (stack your leaves, roll them tightly, then slice perpendicular to the roll). 

Thinly slice the garlic and add to your bowl—Reserve one of your garlic cloves for the toasted bread. 

Add olive oil, salt, and crushed red pepper to the herbs and vegetables. Mix until everything is coated well in oil and seasonings. 

Check on your bread, and when it’s ready, take it out of the oven, and rub it down with your reserved garlic cloves, ensuring you get into the crevices of the bread for the extra flavor. 

Spoon your tomato mixture onto the bread and cut your bread into slices with a serrated knife.
