I’ve always hated macaroni and cheese out of a box. As a kid, I would never eat it, and as an 18-year-old who moved out on her own, I only ate it because I at $.40 a box, it was cheap enough even though I resented it. The salty, powdery cheese, and the stale noodles bring back the “I wish I would’ve known then what I know now” feeling.
Now that I have fluid income, and I can buy real cheese, I tried this recipe out on Bryan a few months ago, and he loved it. I’ve been tweaking the recipe for a while, until I could find something that stuck for me. He loves his less cheesy with lots of cracked black pepper, garlicy grilled chicken and crunchy bacon. I take mine the same, but with A LOT of Louisiana Hot Sauce and a little drizzle of sriracha. The beauty of this recipe is that it’s really plain, but you can dress it up for yourself afterward.
